The NASFAT Strategic Retreat and the NASFAT Biennial General Conference are two distinct but interrelated events organized by NASFAT (Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society).
As the pacesetter Islamic Organization prepare for this 2 germane and historic events, here are some facts to be reminded as to their importance
NASFAT Strategic Retreat:
Purpose : To evaluate past activities, reassess goals, and develop a forward-looking strategic plan.
Participants: Usually involves the leadership cadre—National Executive Council (NEC), National Council of Elders, Zonal Leaderships, and other key stakeholders.
Focus: Internal planning, organizational growth, governance, policy alignment, and program development.
Outcome: A strategic roadmap that outlines goals, objectives, and implementation strategies for the organization over a defined period (usually 5 years).
NASFAT Biennial General Conference:
Purpose: The highest decision-making body of NASFAT, held every two years to deliberate on major issues.
Participants : Delegates from all branches, zones, and national bodies. Including members of the 4 Organs (BOT, Advisory Council, Management Council & Spiritual Council) at all levels (Branch, Zone & National)
Focus: Constitutional matters, policy ratification, financial reports, leadership presentation, and approval of strategic directions.
Outcome: Official adoption or ratification of decisions, policies, and strategic plans (often developed during retreats).
Understanding the Relationship Between these two events
The Strategic Retreat (usually every 5yrs) may often precedes the Biennial General Conference.
The retreat serves as a think tank session to develop proposals, strategies, or reforms.
These outputs from the Strategic Retreat are then presented at the Biennial General Conference for deliberation, refinement, and formal adoption.
In essence:
🧠 Strategic Retreat = Planning and proposal
🗳 General Conference = Ratification and execution
Both event has Complementary Roles
The Retreat is strategic and advisory in nature.
The Conference is legislative and authoritative.
Both are essential to ensure participatory governance, transparency, and alignment between vision and execution.
An Hypothetical Example:
If the Strategic Retreat proposes a new youth empowerment initiative or restructuring of branches, that proposal would be documented and brought before the Biennial General Conference for approval, amendment, or rejection.
As a Stakeholder, which of these would you compromise?
As we set out to meet in Osogbo in the next few hours, May Allah grant all travellers a hitch free journey and we pray for Allah’s guided wisdom to be bestowed on all the retreat delegates for efficient delivery of the task ahead.
