The Women Affairs Management Committee of Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society, NAṢFAT has urged Nigerian youth to eschew any form of drug abuse and addiction so as not to jeopardise the beautiful and laudable dreams they are nurturing to impact positively in the society.
It’s really disheartening and life threatening situation that needs urgent attention, therefore youth and children are urged to be focused, resilient and poised towards impacting the society positively as they are the pride of the country and hope of today and tomorrow.
This was part of the statements made at the press conference for the society’s annual National Women’s Week held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in Lagos.
Consequently, the Federal Government and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were enjoined to strengthen relevant agencies to address the problem.
“It is very worrisome looking at the statistics given by the NDLEA, showing that 40% of Nigerian youth abuse drugs.”
“As mothers, we are seriously disturbed and concerned and would like to suggest that relevant policies and programmes of government should be tailored towards addressing this cankerworm squarely.”
The theme for the week-long event is “Happiness in Marriage: An Islamic Perspective”. It will run from Sunday, November 12 – Sunday, November 19, 2023 at various locations with the grand finale at the society’s Islamic Center, Aseese, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Mowe, Ogun State.
While responding to question during interview with the Press on the significance of the theme. The National Women Affairs Secretary, Alhaja Suwebah Bola Kupolati said, “the theme couldn’t have come at a better time than now, when there are so many challenges facing marriages at present, particularly young married couples. Besides, marriage, especially for Muslims, is a lot more than having someone to call a husband or wife. The marital relationship is an incredible blessing and divine sign, as it stated in Q30 V 21.”
“Issues such as how Muslim couples can find tranquility in their marriage, what are those things that couples can do right to radiate deep love and contentment in their relationship, what it takes to stay married and happy in today’s marriages and homes, these and many shall be addressed at the programme.”said Alhaja Kupolati.
Among other projects the week aims to achieve is the completion of the 30bed hospital at the society’s citadel of learning, Fountain University Osogbo FUO, in the department of Basic Medical and Health Sciences in Nursing Science. The department with the highest number of students for enrollment.
“The hospital will also serve as a healthcare facility to the students, staff and locals in the community and this is another of the ways the society (NAṢFAT) is supporting the government, thereby improving quality of life.
Among dignitaries present at the conference are Lagos Zone 1 Women Affairs Secretary, Alhaja Adeleke-Eshinlokun, Lagos Zone 2 Women Affairs Secretary, Alhaja Aishat Mosunmola Busari, Chairperson of the organising committee, Alhaja Adeola Aralepo who was ably represented by Alhaja Nurat Falana, NAṢFAT PR Committee representative, Alhaji Kemi Lawal and Vice Chairman National Council of Elders, NCOE, Alhaji Tajudeen Ayinla Seriki.
Others are Owutu Branch Women Affairs Secretary, Alhaja Modinat Ishola, Branch Women Affairs Secretaries of Abule-Egba, Alakuko-Alagbado, Ifako-Ijaye and other branches from Lagos Zone 1 among others.
